Family Owned Cottages in Iceland for Rent

For decades the Icelandic summerhouse has been a popular activity and accomidation for Icelandic families. Most of the summerhouses that you will find on Búngaló are owned by Icelandic families and they rent them out when they themselves are not using them. We would therefore like to remind you to be respectful when staying in them.

Here are a few notes that are good to have in mind when renting a summerhouse:

General

• The properties are privataly owned and the owners are responsible for renting them out. Búngaló is only a intermediary that assist getting renters and owners together.

Property received

• You can retreive the cottage after 4 pm on the day of the arrival.
• It is good to have a printed copy of your confirmation when you pick up the keys.
• The owners/contacts of the properties hand over the keys to them, it is best to contact them directly for further instructions. All information about the owner/contact of the property is included in the confirmation mail.
• It is recommended that you bring with you sheets, towels and paper. In some cases the owners can provide them for a fee.

Property checkout

• The property must be returned before 12:00 on the day of the departure.
• You are responsible for cleaning the property and return it clean after your stay. In some cases it is possible to pay an extra fee for cleaning.
• The keys must be returned to the owner or left at a place approved by the owner.

How do I pay?

"When you have found a suitable property simply pick the days on the calendar that you would like to book and then press Book-it. You will be asked to fill in your details and then be moved to a safe payment gateway where you can pay for your stay with a creditcard. As soon as the payment has been approved you will receive a confirmation email."

Where do I get the keys?

"In the confirmation email you receive you will find all the informationa about the owner/contact of the summerhouse. It is best to contact him directly to decide a place to pick up the keys."

Can I pay with a bank transfer?

"No, unfortunately we can only receive payments now with a credit card."

Who is responsible for cleaning the property?

"It is your responsibility to clean the property at the end of your stay unless you have bought cleaning from the owner."

Is the property available?

"If the periode you are looking to rent is not darkened in the calander then it is available and you can book it. "

How do I book a property?

"When you have found the property that you would like to book you press the first and last day of the period you would like to rent in the calander, the days should color red and the total price for the period should appear next to the calander. Then you press the book-now button on the right and follow the instructions that appear."
